We purchased an antique tea set the the designer fell in love with. Unfortunately, there were only two teacups and saucers when we needed four. I created a three part mold for the tea cup and my assistant Ross created a two part mold for the saucer using Smooth-On Mold Star 30. I cast the extra cups and saucers, and Ross led a team of artisans to hand paint the replica pattern on each piece.
UNCG Independent Study: Mold Making and Casting for the Theatre
For my senior honors project I created and proposed an independent study designed to allow me to experiment and gain experience with different mold making and casting techniques. The independent study consists of six main projects to be completed using different mold making methods and materials. During this project I created a journal following the research and processes of each project. The PDF link to the left contains this journal. The journal contains step-by-step descriptions and documentations of the process of each project, along with notes on materials, photos, mistakes, and what I may do differently in the future.
