I became the Prop Shop Manager the second semester of my first year at UNCSA. While it was a bit earlier than expected, the main goal of coming back to school for my MFA was to gain management experience, so I whole-heartedly jump in. My duties included starting and ending crew period, taking attendance, managing work distribution day to day, creating tracking paperwork for various student requirements, and working with Shop Forepeople and Inventory Management to maintain the prop department spaces. I also acted as a pinch point of information for both the students and advisors, earning the title of "Peak Middle Manager." My main management priorities were to put in place systems for future success of managers, maintaining a friendly and cooperative Prop Shop, and making sure the other students were getting chances to expand and prove their skills.
